Head of School update

Welcome Back and Hello to the start of Summer Term 1!

We hope you all had a lovely break over Easter and enjoyed some sunshine.  April has lived up to its reputation and seen us alternately basking in amazing sunshine and then turning the heating on, bringing out winter coats and feeling like we are back in winter!  The children regaled us with lots of stories of their exploits visiting friends and family, seeing spring lambing and enjoying the countryside and coastline where we live.

This week the children have started a new topic of learning, please see the class updates for more details. You will also be receiving your child/ren knowledge organisers for the term.

The launch of our new Reading Cafe’s started this week and was well received. These have replaced our reading morning’s.  To sign up please use the form here: https://forms.gle/kdDkrrzQg529j3yv7

The weather scuppered our plans to unveil our new Buddy Bench however this has now been rescheduled to next Tuesday; thanks to Councillor Wendy Richards for being so flexible!

Wellbeing session

Yesterday our year 6 cohort were visited by the Mental Health Support and Wellbeing team (part of an NHS funded support supplied to schools) to deliver a session on strategies the children can use to recognise and alleviate the signs and symptoms of stress and/or anxiety.  We will be using this to support each other as the children go through their SATs and beyond.

SATS breakfast – Each year we provided a complimentary breakfast to our Year 6 cohort during SATS week Monday 13 – Thursday 16 May.  We invite the children to arrive at school for breakfast at 8.15am to help set them up for the work they will be doing during the day.  A letter has been sent to parents today with more information.

New playtime equipment

Over the Easter holidays we have had building work underway and you will see new play equipment appearing in the playground. Kind reminder to all parents that children are not to use play equipment at drop off or collection times.

School Uniform – The next order cut off is 26 April 2024. Please order on the school money app.

Walk Home Consent (Afterschool Clubs) – As the evenings are lighter your child will now be allowed to walk home when they have finished providing the necessary paperwork has been completed.  If you have any questions or queries please contact the Office.

Young Writers – Check out our Facebook page for information and photos of our amazing winners!  Each year children are given the opportunity to participate and it’s lovely to see all of their work be recognised.  I am sure you are all as proud of them as we are.

What an Eggscellent week we have had!!

Monday saw parents attending the second session of our behaviour support workshop run by our colleagues from the Schools and Communities team.  We hope you have picked up some tips and tricks and don’t forget we are here to support you if you have any questions. Speak to your child’s teacher or Mrs Webster.  Both can be contacted through the School Office.

Wednesday the weather let us down so we were not able to have our picnic on the field however, we were able to have our Easter Extravaganza with parents in for Easter themed activities in their house groups.  We all had some brilliant fun and the crafting skills of our parents never ceases to amaze!  The children all loved having you here.

Thursday we had class photos in the morning, these will be available after Easter.

When we return after the Easter holiday we will be launching our new Reading Cafe’s.  These are instead of the reading mornings offered so far this year.  Parents are invited to join their children on set days to come into class and join in with reading activities for half an hour. Further details will be sent out on the Dates for the Diary notice.

All that remains is to wish all of our families, children and staff a lovely Easter break and see you all when we return on Monday 15 April 2024.
